Zero in on overall roast development

Another interesting little experiment. All roasts were using a specialty grade Kenyan. 8 min V2 is my latest light roast profile. V3 has one specific change made to how the roast starts by removing only the 2nd control point. This results in significantly lower preheat power needed. Some adjustment o...

Re: Finding Balance

Results from cupping. My preference was for the lightest roast at 1.7 with 2.4 still being quite drinkable. This profile seems good at reducing acidity and as the roast gets darker this becomes even more apparent. A good option for those looking to reduce acidity in their espresso. Overall I find Da...

Re: Old school medium - dark

Anyone using this profile should compare to the "DarkSide" profile found here https://kaffelogic.com/community/viewto ... ?f=6&t=160

It is a good example of a baked roast = this profile Vs an excellent dark roast that is not.

Finding Balance

A less aggressive approach with the intention of finding balance and YOUR goldilocks zone for a particular coffee. Similar approach to Darkside with a few tweaks. Fully developed from mid first crack Level 1.7 onwards. 12 min MAX Level 5.2 just on 2nd crack depending on the bean, definitely worth a ...

Re: Light

Hi John, Describing baked in coffee is kind of like describing a colour to someone who has never seen it before. At its best, only a little baked might be a general flatness to the cup, acidity is subdued and there will be bitterness in varying levels depending on a multitude of things but otherwise...

The Power of the Dark Side

My latest thoughts followed by an excellent dark roast profile..... Like the Ninja profile, jumping straight up the very start and easing off is quite useful as it kind of mimics a pre heated roaster or an imaginary turning point like in a drum roaster except its a mirror image. From here we want to...

Re: Colombia Melky Chevaz - What works for you?

Still early on the 9 min but I think its "overall development" may be slightly better than the 8 min. But the finish on 9min a touch quick, so I will be playing around with the entire second half to get a slightly shallower gradient / longer MAI. Its got some good clean caramel milk choc f...

Re: Colombia Melky Chevaz - What works for you?

Sounds good Chris, I look forward to trying them. The 8min profile above is coming along nicely for a lighter roast, stopped a natural for filter mid first crack after about 40 sec and it is fully developed. For Max Level dont go over 3.2 as the profile is too steep and runs out of power / starts ba...

Re: Colombia Melky Chevaz - What works for you?

My cupping notes suggest that Firestarter is underdeveloped and it relies on the darker / tending to ashy notes at higher Levels to cover up the slight green astringency. At lower Levels 2.2 - 2.5 this green astringent note is worse like sucking on a tea bag. Along with the very steep decline in ROR...
