Re: Colombia Melky Chevaz - What works for you?

Whats your Voltage like? Im usually at 240V, can go up to 242 and down to 237. The only problem with these higher/static fan rpm roasts is people might run into trouble on darker roasts / higher Levels. Ive pushed the above profile to 3.3 with 240V / 100g batch size and it went a bit over 1400W towa...

Re: Colombia Melky Chevaz - What works for you?

No worries Beanz just sharing my findings as I go. Yes you can ignore warnings, generally ive found the default pre heat power setting can be reduced by 100 - 200W depending on profile design. 120g the default would likely be neccessary. I like to wait at least 3 days before cupping and 5 to 7 days ...

Re: Colombia Melky Chevaz - What works for you?

Hey Beanz, Nothing specific to that coffee but I have been working exclusively with a Colombian last month and the following may be of help. So the Classic at those power levels coupled with VST basket and 1:2.5 - 1:3 shot ratio will be quite bitter and roasty. To pull longer shots like that you rea...

Re: chasing RoR

Thanks Beanz! I think everyone should probably ignore my profile above, its not tasting as good as I first thought. I think Damians is probably still better. This reinforces my belief about the black power profile going flat at the the end killing the roast. It becomes quite apparent as the coffee r...

Re: chasing RoR

I have stuck to 100g batch and nearly gone through another 5kg of a decent bottom rung specialty grade washed Colombian. Cupping Damian profile over a few different beans revealed a similar characteristic in all of them as they aged from 7 to 14 days. A bit of underdevelopment (likely mitigated if r...

Re: chasing RoR

Fascinating and generous input Damian. I'm just starting the roasting journey and have an endless amount to learn. (4 roasts in!). Can you advise, was it really FC at 7"30' ? With Guatemala Huehuetenango and K-Classic at L3.5 FC has been at 5'03''. That being 5 minutes from pressing the go but...

Re: chasing RoR

Ok so I went back to 7.3.12.1064 just to be sure and this was the result. DamianPNG.JPG My settings are ROR multiplier 1 / smoothing 10 sec Just a few technical notes from looking at your log Steve: 1. The wiggles in the temperature and ROR curves towards the start of the roast look like PID tuning...
