Re: Recording 1st crack with mobile

Thanks for this tip nrdlnd. I have used a similar app but seem to have mislaid it with updates. There are at least two apps which have Smart Audio Recorder in their title. Can you clarify the full name of the app and the developer name? This would be a good post for anyone else who thinks they might...

Re: Steve's Current Profiles 100g MAX

Steve, thanks for these two profiles and the explanation. I like the way you have thought about those of us who don't have the full 240v to play with too. Looking forward to trying the Espresso. Cheers

Re: Steady and Dark

nrdlnd, sorry to go Off Topic here, after another great contribution. I've just got my Niche Zero, upgraded from Sette 270Wi, and that, along with getting a new Bezzera Duo DE machine, has had me get a Kg of Allpress Espresso so that I have a benchmark taste to fine tune the gear and get used to it....

Re: Steady and Dark

The roasts that fails the espresso test do often work well for more regular filter coffee in my household. It may be easier to get good results with blends. This is a good resource on the net: https://library.sweetmarias.com/blending/ (First attempt at grabbing quotes!) Nrdlnd - two GEMS in your po...

Re: Steady and Dark

nrdlnd - great observation and feedback. Thanks. I'm working my way back to dark. My very first roast was Colombia Melky Chevaz with k-logic classic at RL 4.0 and it tasted burnt to me. Infact, they improved with much aging but I never did get to finish them. Since then I've erred to lighter roasts ...

Re: Roast Record Sheet

Thanks Howard. Escaped beans are those ones you discover amongst the chaff collected in the chimney during the roasting process. They have escaped out of the roast due to loading/fan speed. Sometimes they are hiding where the chimney sits and delight in being just the other side of the lip so you mi...

Re: Start of profile - Issue or not?

@lancruiser. Just wondering whether you inspect and reject some beans post roast? In your picture, above, I notice a couple of f'uglies (around 5 past 12 top mid pic) and a blondie about third way up. I've been working to find a KJM blend with beans available in NZ (on a post started by fnq). I noti...

Roast Record Sheet

I've been modifying a Roast Record Sheet and thought others might find it useful. Some items have come up in discussions here and others are there as prompts. Cheers

Re: Steady and Dark

Question for Wayne, or Chris, has the Steady and Dark II been replaced by your Super dark v1.0.kpro? @nrdlnd - I read on another thread here Wayne's comments re 0-1200 Rest v1.0.kpro "The profile is created through an average based of roasting Brazil Santos and Brazil Cerado and 3 other super l...

Re: Suggested beans and roast depth for a more syrupy finish

Just a quick update. Day 8 of my above blend and it's got a lot better. On saying that, I'm left with a slightly ashy aftertaste and the blend seems to have peaked yesterday at Day 7. Today I will need to have my second attempt. Oh for access to some of those beans you Aussies can get! Such a tease ...
