Lost power mid-roast...what to do next?

I am going to put this out there. Will be interested in practical and creative solutions. My neighbourhood had a power outage while I was in the middle of a roast. If only the roast were in the drying phase, I could potentially restart the roast when the power returned. Unfortunately, the roast was ...

Re: Q: what do I do with these?

1500-2000GTTT profile test roasts today. Columbia Popayan. I'm getting a few light coloured beans in the roasts. I haven't had that with other profiles. What does it indicate? They could be quakers. Quakers are unripened beans. Pick them out. They tend to have a grassy and unappealing taste. What I...

Re: Tipping?

I didn't have luck with the D-Roast mostly due to not having enough power at home to keep on track during the later half of the roast. Yes, that is a problem for me too. However, having just had another look at the profile and logs he posted I actually would say that there isn't enough continual he...

There too much initial heat in that profile.

Re: Tipping?

I I dont think this is tipping because it is happening to all the beans in the same location. I think you are referring to scorching. Tipping happens at one end of the bean around a crack where steam escapes. It's hard to get scorching with the Kaffelogic unless the roaster is defective. I have been...

Re: Q: what do I do with these?

Yes, I think rather than speculating, something official should come from Kaffelogic.

We could all benefit to know what the recommended capacity actually is. Chris or Wayne?

Wayne wrote: Mon 15 Jun, 2020 9:14 am I would suggest 100g size roasts .
Is there a reason for 100g roast vs 120g? Has there been a revision of the Kaffelogic 120g capacity?

Re: How to interpret roasting suggestions?

Thanks, Chris. Yes, I viewed the recording of the workshop yesterday that covered this topic. Very insightful. I would have liked to attend the workshop but work commitments prevented participation. It would be interesting if Wayne could explain what kind of flavour he is trying to get from increasi...

How to interpret roasting suggestions?

Often I come across descriptions in green bean sale site that says "requires a fair amount of heat early". In the context of a drum roaster, I would interpret it as "pre-heat the roaster to a higher temperature and/or apply more heat after charging". In the context of Kaffelogic,...

I, on the other hand, find 15 characters too few for the profile name. I like descriptive names for my profiles. As such, I would argue for more characters. Just my 2 cents worth.
