Pretty much a strung out sequence.

Re: Good lighter roast profile in city roast range ?

Ben, The area under the profile curve gives some measure of the energy given to the beans. Out of the three you tried I would say Ben's 004, which you found the best taste, has the smallest area - thus least energy input. Area under the curve can be reduced by a flatter profile and shorter time. Int...

Re: 120 Roasts and Gunge

For others reading this post who might be inclined to remove the plastic top, it is preferable when you do so that you do not separate the plastic top from the aluminium roast chamber, but rather remove them as one part. There is a technique for doing this - please write if you would like instructi...

Temperature spread for First Crack

Today I heard beans still popping for First Crack at 226 - just as cooling started. The range is 212-226︒C. Would adjusting airflow up help with these higher density Yirgacheffes? I suspect too much air wouldn't help - how do I find the optimum? Or do I just avoid the problem and go up a level or tw...

Re: Good lighter roast profile in city roast range ?

Cupping these Yirgachegffes on Steves Ninja9 was less special than I was hoping. The first from above, my #127 was a sharp, very acid muted floral and quite bitter. Aroma was muted. #128 was similar to 127, slightly more defined, a little cleaner floral with less acid. Still lacking in aroma over th...

But still over temperature where it matters so probably another degree to subtract from zone 2 boost.

I'll cup these tomorrow ...

Re: Good lighter roast profile in city roast range ?

Just tried Steve's Ninja9shorterfinish with some Yirgacheffe and ... Screenshot from 2019-09-21 10-28-35.png it produces a temperature kick whilst the beans are exothermic in First Crack. The kick up causes the roast to bail out prematurely. So nothing special aroma-wise immediately after roasting. ...

Re: Trying to match small drum roast

We just don't know how to translate drum roast temperatures to nano 7 air roast temperatures. The only fixed point we have is First Crack temperature to make comparisons between two types. FC fixes a difference. But all we know is that is the difference at FC. We cannot assume the temperature differ...

Re: Failed experimental profiles

Hi Steve, The Nano 7 is a profile following roaster. You were the profile following system for your drum roaster. You adjusted the machine parameters as the roast progressed to follow the profile in your head. And you needed the feedback of smell and colour to understand the roast. With the Nano 7 i...

Re: KLPMS Layout

It's good the firmware update has been effective. I originally relied on the operating system to remember current working directory because Windows does a fairly good job of doing that automatically, and it provides some assistance when switching between programs, but I'm now more inclined to think...
