Re: Kaffelogic Core Profile Feedback
Hi Wayne, to change it up a bit I've been using your 900-1200 GTTT profile recently. I found that the fan speed was reducing before dehydration really kicked in, resulting in no bean movement between about 2:00 and 7:00. This gave an odd, premature/spread out first crack as I suspect the beans furth...

Thanks Chris. Adjusting the preheat check gradient time from 0:30 to 0:45 did the trick. log 296 is one of the aborted roasts and 299 is a completed roast. A bit of a ROR dip at first crack, but the proof of the pudding will be in the drinking.

Re: Steve's Ultimate Profiles 100g - Constantly Declining Fan Profile (Fan Cal 0.91)
Hi All,
Any thoughts on what to tweak if I'm getting "temperature rise too slow" errors a few seconds into the roast on MD3 and MD4? This is in NZ with 230V. Increase the input power slightly? Or is there an early temperature vs time test that it's failing?
Cheers
Simon

Re: Wednesday Profile Development
Here's a log of my roast. haven't viewed it in Kaffelogic Studio yet. Can report no tipping, moderately loud first crack. Roasted to level 4. Tried chewing on a few and they tasted great. Am about to make espresso from them.

Re: Wednesday Profile Development
Hi Wayne, Here's an attempt at a functioning profile created from the first of your three. I tried to add a boost around first crack to counter the behaviour Chris showed us where the beans absorb heat in a burst as they crack. Intending to use this on my Peruvian Blend (washed, 1200m). cheers Simon

Re: Dark roast
Also here are images of my espresso machine basket. The internet tells me this is a 14g basket. With 20g dosed there is a slight indentation in the puck from the shower screen after brewing. Also; the InCafe Peruvian blend is "a mix of Caturra / Catimor / Catuai variety" with "a short...

Dark roast
Hi all, Following our discussion this morning on the virtual cafe, here are two logs. 152 is the profile I've been using for a while, with reasonable results. 155 is the profile I created on Monday night to have a minimal ROR after first crack. My aim is to produce a dark roast (toffee/caramel/almon...

Re: Brazil medium espresso roast
Hi Steve, I would be keen to try a profile for a darker roast optimised version of this profile (4.5 to 4.9 or thereabouts) if you have one. I prefer my chocolate/licorice/caramel flavours to 'fruity' flavours. And I've been sourcing beans from Incafe, which as the name suggests are mostly Peruvian....

Re: Modified Firestarter
Thanks Chris. The slow oscillation is interesting and would certainly account for what's going on. I'll try increasing the Kd multiplier first, and if that doesn't have the desired effect I'll try increasing fan speed. Might have to roast at about 3 in the morning to be confident in getting close to...

Re: Modified Firestarter
Hi Chris,
Yes I thought it might. The air temperature oscillates quite a lot as the RoR approaches zero. Can you think of any settings tweaks that might reduce the oscillation? In PID terms, perhaps it's underdamped.
