Hello,
So my grinder arrived late last week and I've had a bit of a play with it, and worked out most of the basics. One thing seems odd to me. There's a field in the roast log template for 'Logged Colour Change', just above 'Logged First Crack'. I know how to record first crack in the log, but how on earth do you log the colour change (presumably when beans start to yellow), given that you can't see the beans? Well....I can't see them anyway. I can see the key combination used to mark the point.
Just curious.
Cheers
Bazza

You may interested in those two threads.
Those are clear lid or tube mod example to observer process of roasting.

Also I understand Kaffelogic is planning/testing some official solution for this,

Re: Logged Colour Change?
Thanks Ben. That makes sense. I think I'd need to also do my roasting at a less elevated location (currently on choppping board on top of gas burner stove) to enable me to look down on the top.
Re: Logged Colour Change?
I did Damian's route and bought glass tube from Otago Uni, so I can see it from side.
Before that I occasionally open the top lid while roasting but chefs goes all over if you do,
it works well although I'm bit lazy logging the colour change other than fist clack for comparison to other roast.
The colour change seems to be chapping in consistent temp from observation.

Re: Logged Colour Change?
Didn't realise that Otago were getting so entreprenurial as to retail glass tubing Spent a bit of time there a few years back.....good bandwidth in the flat.
I might investigate a similar approach.

Chris mentioned size of tube here ;
https://kaffelogic.com/community/viewto ... t=124#p799
with that size just a simple replacement with existing tube, but when chefs accumulate there, it will be obstacle. Damian dis quite bit of trial on that thread.

Yes. I can confirm there is something official coming next year that will improve visibility. Meanwhile, for those who are interested in modding there are the threads on this forum, plus get in touch directly for help with spare parts if needed for modding.
