Minimum operating temperature!!

#1716

Post by JamesG »

We recently discovered that our kitchen extractor fan runs only in recirculating mode (!!! Our house is airtight, and actual ventilation occurs elsewhere!) so had taken to roasting outside. However, it just errored out. It is possibly around 1 degree outside, and the message said Temp <5 ... I'm assuming this means when its that cold we have to revert to roasting inside?

Yes it does. The roaster can only raise the intake air temperature by so much, so this limit has been set to ensure it can get to roasting temperature. You might want to consider using an air purifier when roasting indoors.

It's not usually so cold, we just happened to be out of beans. We'll just try and keep a better idea on the weather through winter

Got round to looking at the log, and yes, it's clear it wasn't managing to hold the curve, though it was still heating at the point it aborted. Most importantly, the beans still made OK coffee!!

The cut off at 5 deg C is set at a point where we are pretty certain the roaster won't cope. As you have found it doesn't mean it will follow the roast profile curve just because the temperature is above 5 deg, but not following the curve is not necessarily a disaster for the coffee. We have on occasions had a roast where the roaster maxxed out and the roast fell below the profile line, and we preferred the coffee. Then it was back into Kaffelogic Studio to trace over the log line and make a new profile from that!

Do you have any suggestions as to air purifiers that work well with the kaffelogic? Does it need to be a larger unit, or would a smaller one do the job?
