Probe tip bending up?

#332

Post by SniffCoffee »

Hi there

I've done about 15 roasts on my kaffelogic and have noticed that the very fine tip of the probe has now curved and points upwards - is this normal and to be expected? Happy to post a photo if that helps.

A photo would be appreciated. I don't think this is a problem, but would like to see a photo to be sure.
Cheers

That looks ok to me. Better to leave it than straighten it. The amount it has bent will have no effect on the performance of the probe. (You can straighten it, but definitely don't do this more often than every couple of months because metal fatigue will shorten the life of the probe tip.)

Hi Chris

I thought I would post a photo of my tip too, because this morning I’ve had a lot of ‘heat too fast’ errors, about 1 in 3, and lost a lot of beans. The rate of rise seems to be going all over the place (see examples).

Will try a fan recalibration.

Just did a fan calibration and moved the speed up from .97 to 1.01. Seems to have fixed the heat too fast issue, have done three roasts back to back with no problem. Also roasts are much more even. Very happy!

Some roasters do seem to need this calibration shift up of about 0.03 after the first few roasts. We believe it is an annealing effect where the fan impeller settles into a slightly different shape during the first heat/cool cycles. Now that you have recalibrated it should be stable at the new setting. For reference for others reading this post the article on how to recalibrate is at https://kaffelogic.com/index.php/home/h ... -fan-speed.
