Post by Damian »

Just a quick post to saying hello!

I have enjoyed reading the few ventures shared here already and am looking forward to seeing what this baby can do for my coffee. My Nano 7 should arrive any minute now.... :D

Roaster arrived :D :D
Updated app to 3.2.4, update FW to 7.3.10.1038
Loaded BrazilMed profile
Weighed/added 100g of Bazil Pulped Natural beans
Pressed play, a little under 20 minutes later and we're all done

A couple questions?

Can I press a button to record FC or other data point during the roast, or only post-roast?
Can I preheat? or is there no benefit?
Are people starting the roast with the chimney off to observe tumbling?
a transparent chimney might be a handy option

Anyway, first/test roast done, happy days ahead!

During the roast press the menu button ☰ and it will give you the option to press ▶ and log first crack. You can do this more than once - it will only record the last time. You can also log other events such as colour change and second crack - access to these is by pressing the menu button ☰ and then +/- to change event.

There is no benefit from preheating. The roast chamber has approx 10% of the thermal capacity of a typical batch of green beans and the system is designed without the need for preheating. (Technically we call the first 30 secs of the roast 'preheat' because the roast control software is in a different state at this time, but it is not a true preheat because the beans are in the chamber.)

If you want to observe tumbling at the start of the roast it is safe to leave the chimney off because chaff has not started to come off. However, better is to just leave the lid off during this stage if you have enough light to see down the chimney. A transparent chimney will be available as an accessory in the future - we are working on it.

Hello Damian,

Killer setup you have! (CS post)

Feel free to add your experiences as you go, will be very interested to hear any feedback good and bad so we can improve, especially with your machine + grinder combo.

Cheers.

No, that's another future enhancement that is in the pipeline.
