My mod

Trying to find a shop to get the tube from in NZ, Thinking to go for 200mm long so I can get little longer mesh area. Although Damian's 150mm setup looks balanced,

I can wait until official one came out but looks easy enough to tinker, if I can get hold on to material. Is anyone in NZ done this mod?

We were able to obtain small quantities cut to length and fire polished from the University of Otago Chemistry Dept.

I replaced the aluminum chimney with a glass tube (Borosilicate pyrex)
I can now view what the beans are doing easier.
I think I might make a hat type chaff catcher, to give even better viewing.

Now hunting fitting clamp. wire and mesh. I'm thinking Stainless 100 mesh but may be too fine?

We had the glass tube cut to the same length as the aluminium tube, so it was a drop in replacement for us.
We have used stainless 100 mesh and it works very well. Good structural strength. The aluminium insect mesh is easier to shape though.
Cable ties are typically PA6 and you may find that they are able to tolerate the temperature well - easier than a hose clamp.

Great thanks for info! I'll look around what may be easily obtain. I'll also check cable tie. I think PA6/66 is about up to 180C so being up from actual chamber so, yes, it may be good choice.

I asked to cut the tube to 180mm to mind to that copying Damian's design and keep good viewing window and keep the good amount of collector capacity.

It fit tight enough but no need for excess pressure to fit. Very nice fire polish finish. I haven't invoiced yet but what I was told was not too expensive for just one sample made for custom size.

My cable tie is working fine.
I just wipe the inside of tube with paper towel to keep it clean. Being able to see the beans is great, particularly for monitoring fan speeds.

I frequently roast 112g, with the cooling fans speed set 16900, I no longer loose beans. I have done some larger 130g and 135g roasts, but I get some beans going over the top, your longer tube would be better. 135g is getting a bit much though, beans fall out when removing the tube, 130g fits ok (just). The roaster can handle the load easy enough.

My basket would easily hold chaff from 5+ roasts, I could have made it half the height I reckon.

I normally do 100g batch but I may back to 120g bath that will give me about plus or minus 100g for result

Just done bit of cutting and shaving of chaff collector plastic.

Tube is bit longer as 180mm.
I have shortened bottom and top part of plastic and shorter meth with silver insect screen.
Volume of collector is smaller than original but I try to proportion better for open part of mesh so looks balanced.

The base ( bottom) part of plastic I shaved off that hold aluminium tube so the glass tube is go though. It seems enough friction to holding there by itself but will see how it goes.

This is how it looks. Black ring in background is what I took oi=off from top and bottom,.

Took the rid off, may experiment how much I can go up or down.

My concern now is how it react to heat up /cool down and I home not braking glass.

Silver mesh may going to brown soon and I see black one was also brown. but quick wash makes.

So far I think I can re assemble with original black mash and alundum tube, if this does snot hold. But base part I have no stopper for tube and that may make but of mess when removing corrector
I have few more idea but that need tow ait until all this lockdown is resolved.

Looking good for first but problem is here that cacher is heavy and friction getting very loose when heat is build up. So the cacher is creeping down while roasting.

I added some stay and it reasonably well. So I need to come up with something or like Damian do with cramp or cable tie.

I had this thin wire so I did one on top to make it hold there, if this is too high, rid is lifting while cooing down. I find some reasonable gap needed at top. I'll look for little more string material for this stay,
