Log file dates and curve following for decaf

All my log files have a date created of 1/01/2001 at 02:01

Can I assume this isn't a problem?

Also, in the early days the decaf roast was following the curve well (log4), now it's jumping all over the place (log24 & log30) .

The Indian mysore (log31) seems fairly stable.

I'll attach log24 in the next message as unable to add it here!

Many thanks, Justine

Hi Justine
Thanks for posting your log files. Yes, all log files get the same date until you edit them on your laptop, so that is not an issue.

Your roaster is definitely playing up and your log 24 shows that it is an intermittent failure. I don't think it has anything to do with the beans, but I suspect it is more or less random. I would like to get it back for a warranty repair and will contact you directly to arrange this. (I suspect the thermal fuse is operating partially which occasionally interrupts the power supply to the element.)

Thanks for returning your roaster so promptly. The issue was a manufacturing fault with the heating element. This has now been replaced and the roaster is on its way back to you.

Many thanks, eager to try it and see if there's a difference in results!

Actually it will be interesting to hear your findings. The fault meant that the thermal fuse was occasionally cutting out. Once it cooled down a few degrees it came back on again. The result was the normally smooth temperature curve became a saw-tooth, but it did did still ultimately follow the profile curve. Can you taste the difference?

Hi Chris,

Machine arrived today, here's my first roast of modified Steady Dark with decaf beans.

Follows the line much closer.

Nice to see the save icon on the roaster.

Will taste later, beans appear a bit darker than before, so I might need to dial it back. I'll experiment.

Thanks for the very quick turn around, Justine
