Studio on Windows
Studio on Windows
I’m interested to know if anyone runs Studio on Windows 8.1 and has a problem with accessing roast logs.
Perhaps time to update ?

Re: Studio on Windows
It is tested and runs on Windows 7. Maybe compatibility mode will be your friend?
Re: Studio on Windows
Thanks for your reply kaffelogic, but I am now forced to own up to my total lack of computer skill. What is compatibility mode?
My reason for posting is that after a roast, and opening Studio, then clicking “File”, then “Recent Files” no log appears. Although there are a couple of logs from previous roasts when the roaster was in other hands. And I am almost certain that there were more than the two roasts. It appears that my computer does not want to “talk” to the roaster, as it does not show up as an attached device as does a USB plugged into the same port. I don’t know how to proceed from here, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Studio on Windows
Kaffelogic roasters use the USB serial interface. If you are using Windows 7 or 8, you will need to tell Windows to use the appropriate built-in driver. (Windows 10 installs the correct driver automatically.)
We recommend Zadig (https://zadig.akeo.ie/) for this.
Download and run Zadig.

Select Board CDC (Interface 0) from the drop-down box. Select USB Serial (CDC) as the driver.
Then click Install Driver. A serial port will be assigned when the installation is complete.
After this you should be able to connect to your roaster.
Be careful using Zadig because you do not want to affect any other drivers on your computer.

Re: Studio on Windows
Thanks for the detailed description of what to do - exactly what I needed. Checking in Device Manager indicates all went well with the Zadig download, but still no joy in accessing roast logs. I will attach some screen shots which may indicate if I have erred somewhere along the way.
Thanks once again for your assistance .

Re: Studio on Windows
UPDATE All is well. Since loading the driver I did not notice that another icon had appeared (underneath Help on the toolbar. Now all the toasts are accessible.

Now we can start the journey.
Once again, many thanks kaffelogic for your most valuable advice.

Re: Studio on Windows
Driver problem reappears.
After initial success using the Zadig driver it ceased to work and contact between roaster and computer was not possible. On trying to reload Zadig it was not possible to get further than the first input of "Select CDC (Interface 0)"- that box was just highlighted in blue and would not accept any input. So I decided to get the computer upgraded to Windows 10 ( from 8.1) Received it back today from the technician and all appears to be working well except it does not recognize my KL roaster. Although I thought a compatible driver was in Win 10, I tried to install Zadig once again. Same problem as before, in that it was not possible to get past the first step.
Not having access to other profiles and being able to monitor my roasts is of course a bit of a downer, nevertheless I'm still having fun.
Any help would be really appreciated.

Re: Studio on Windows
In Zadig you need to select 'Options', 'List all devices', and you need to have your cable connected to your roaster, and roaster powered up. The driver should already show as usbser on Windows 10. If all of this fails you may have a faulty cable, connection (not plugged in firmly), or even roaster PCB fault.

Hi kaffelogic,
Thanks again for your reply. The attached screen shot shows three options under “Replace Driver” and comes with a cautionary warning I don’t understand. Rather than blunder ahead and possibly cause problems, I seek your advice as to which option to select:
1 Install Driver
2 Install WCID Driver
3 Extract Files (Don’t Install)
Here’s hoping I’m only one click away from getting going.

Re: Studio on Windows
Don't touch that button! The only driver you want to touch is Board CDC. If it's not in the list you have to start troubleshooting with the USB cable and ultimately the roaster. Trying a different cable and checking all the connections are firmly made is the first thing. If you have the opportunity to try a different laptop that is also a good step in isolating the problem. After that, if you still can't see Board CDC in the list, you will need to contact your supplier for further diagnosis.
