Re: Hello from the UK

Very belated thanks! But delighted to discover that Falcon Micro are shipping to the EU/Republic of Ireland, and can explore some new coffees beyond the usual.
Thanks so much!!

Re: Minimum operating temperature!!

Got round to looking at the log, and yes, it's clear it wasn't managing to hold the curve, though it was still heating at the point it aborted. Most importantly, the beans still made OK coffee!!

Re: Hello from the UK

Hi northern hemisphere people! I'm a New Zealander based in Ireland. Saw Chris demonstrating the roaster before we left, and then my parents brought it over last summer. I've had to lower the fan speed on some profiles as our delivery voltage is lower than in NZ. But perhaps with your impending inde...

Re: Minimum operating temperature!!

It's not usually so cold, we just happened to be out of beans. We'll just try and keep a better idea on the weather through winter

Re: Voltage issues - pays to check technical info

Late to this party, but that is super interesting. Mine refuses to start if the voltage is below 220V (which being in Europe, has been surprisingly often).
As a result, I've made a number of profiles which sacrifice ~10% of fan speed to focus on keeping the heat high enough (which work out OK)

Minimum operating temperature!!

We recently discovered that our kitchen extractor fan runs only in recirculating mode (!!! Our house is airtight, and actual ventilation occurs elsewhere!) so had taken to roasting outside. However, it just errored out. It is possibly around 1 degree outside, and the message said Temp <5 ... I'm ass...

Re: D-Roast

Besides I've already tried Steves Darkside.kpro on a couple of Brazilian beans and I got a very good medium roast for espresso with a Brazilian Yellow Bourbon at L=4.6. It was sweet and it extracted well. I may try it at 4.7 or 4.8. There were no problem with not enough power so I think this fan pr...

Re: Euro (low voltage) Firestarter

I did weigh them. The measure was overflowing, and it was about 96g. I wasn't sure to put more weight in or not, so I left it at that. Will see how they go tomorrow and continue experimenting. I've been bracketing each bean in this profile, but it seems we are mostly happy with about 3.4, and will t...

Re: Euro (low voltage) Firestarter

Tonight I've also taken a first run at a Monsooned Malabar. Never had this before, but the beans are left out in the monsoon (as opposed to washed or natural process). They are very yellow, bigger, and quite light, so probably explains why it overshot temperature wise at the start. Quite an uneven r...

Euro (low voltage) Firestarter

As noted on another thread, the Firestarter profile has a really high starting wattage requirement, so I dialled this right back for my feeble european electricity. And also pulled the fan-speed right back. It has been doing pretty well. Here's an Ethiopian Sidamo sidamo firestarter.png Here's a Per...
