Persistent Thermal Dip/Runaway Errors

#3615

Post by digestif »

Hi everyone,
New roaster here trying to troubleshoot a frustrating issue I've been having with my Nano. Since purchasing the machine, I've had periodic fights with thermal dip/runaway. I didn't want to jump the gun and assume something was wrong with the machine (plus the insulation in my kitchen is pretty appalling), so I moved the Nano from in front of a window to the opposite side of the kitchen and that seemed to solve things for a while.

Unfortunately when winter hit, the problems returned. Using the same logic as before I assumed nowhere in the kitchen was safe now, so I moved the machine to an interior room where hopefully the temperature was more stable. This worked for 1 or 2 roasting sessions before today, but I've now had 3 errors in a row on the same profile so I'm convinced the environment isn't the only variable at play here.

I've attached the files below; 117 is a runaway and 119/122 are dips. The profile is fairly dialed in for a specific washed Ethiopia that's been basically my only test subject so far in roasting, and as I mentioned above this profile has roasted good coffee consistently in the past. I've re-calibrated the fan speed as per the basic troubleshooting guide from KL's wiki, so my question is whether this is something in my profile that is causing the PID to be so sensitive or if there's just something wrong with my machine?

There are unusual temperature spikes in your logs which cause the thermal dips. This suggests that there may be a fault or there may be a power supply issue. Please contact Kaffelogic customer support for assistance with diagnosis.
